Citrine

This is a relatively rare, yellow variety of Quartz. The name of the stone comes from the word "citrine," which means yellow. A transparent stone with a slightly yellow tint caused by trace amounts of iron. Yellow-tinted stones are exceptionally desired in jewelry. A common practice is to achieve a similar effect to that of Citrine by heating Amethyst or Smoky Quartz. Heated Citrines exhibit a reddish hue, while natural citrine is usually pale yellow. The most highly valued Citrines are dark orange in color and are called Madeira Citrines due to their color similarity to Madeira wine. Natural Citrine can occur as Ametrine – a combination of Citrine and Amethyst, a stone in yellow-purple color.
