Assay Mark

An assay mark is an officially established symbol that indicates the gold content of jewelry. In order for precious metal products to be offered to customers in accordance with the law, they must obtain the appropriate assay mark, which is granted by the Assay Office. It contains information marked with special symbols about the metal from which the jewelry item is made and about the jewelry's fineness.

This does not apply to silver items weighing less than 5 grams and to gold and platinum items weighing up to one gram. If the item is heavier but delicate enough that the attempt to place the assay mark may damage it, the marking is waived in favor of a certificate containing the information that could not be stamped.
